SUMMARY
Inspired by Chanie’s story and Gord’s call to build a better Canada, the Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund aims to build cultural understanding and create a path toward reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples. We are a national Indigenous-led charity moving reconciliation forward.
As part of the DWF team, the Development Associate, Partnerships is responsible for supporting DWF’s corporate fundraising activities, including sponsorships, cause marketing, grants, program oversight, and other corporate engagement initiatives that align with and move forward DWF’s mission and goals. They will also support prospecting and relationship management for the Legacy Spaces program.
Reporting to the Director of Development, the Development Associate, Partnerships will be responsible for helping to advance all corporate fundraising initiatives for DWF. As DWF continues to rapidly grow and expand, a willingness to be nimble, flexible, and accommodate ongoing change is necessary.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Fundraising & Stewardship
- Work collaboratively with the Director, Development and other members of the Development team to establish and implement the annual fundraising plan with a focus on strategies for growing and maintaining corporate support
- Support the management and oversight of existing corporate partners, including regular management of activities, promotions, fundraising and reporting, and communication and partnership support
- Help to prospect, cultivate, solicit, and steward prospective corporate partners, including Legacy Spaces prospects
- Provide regular reports and updates on partnership and prospect activity to the Director, Development and President & CEO
- Conduct ongoing research into new corporate funding and partnership opportunities, seeking collaborative, measurable, and strategically aligned opportunities
- Work with the Director, Development to build and pitch proposals
- Support the administration of fundraising and sponsorship efforts, including forecast tracking, creating and maintaining annual solicitation, acquisition, stewardship, and reporting calendars
- Help to ensure the fulfillment of partnership and sponsorship benefits and deliverables, complex agreements with corporate partners, and contractual obligations
- Support the planning and execution of events and activities that advance the mission and fundraising goals of the organization
General
- Take responsibility to increase sensitivity, awareness, and implementation of cultural teachings and organizational practices in a professional manner
- Participate as a representative of DWF at events within the community
- Build relationships to advance the mission and goals of DWF
- Support and work towards the overall vision and mission of the DWF
- Ability to work as a team member and within the organization framework including staff meetings, professional development opportunities, team building, and self-care
- Carry out other duties which may be necessary from time to time, as required
Administrative
- Ensure corporate partner accounts are updated and maintained regularly
- Utilize computer programs (spreadsheets and database software) to prepare reports, memos, and documents, and to maintain files and records on SharePoint
- Knowledge of stakeholders with an ability to network, create and maintain these relationships
- Coordinate administrative activities with external vendors as needed
- Manage physical and digital documentation for DWF according to established procedures
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Post-secondary diploma/degree in fundraising, communications, business, or another relevant field of study (or equivalency)
- Minimum three (3) years of current work-related experience
- Discretionary skills to manage confidential information required
- High levels of accuracy, productivity, and initiative are required
- High attention to detail and strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong time management skills with an ability to plan, define measurable objectives and outcomes, and meet timelines
- Ability to perform well under pressure and to assess and prioritize multiple priorities
- Proven analytical and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of data regulations, privacy, ethical use of data, data sharing, and access management is considered an asset
- Experience with data fundraising software is considered an asset
- Exceptional knowledge of MS Office, SharePoint, Internet, and general office equipment
- Current Police Record and Vulnerable Sector Check is required
Preference will be given to:
- Candidates with lived experience of Indigenous cultures and heritage
- Working knowledge of Indigenous traditional languages or French
