Below are the answers to some common questions about donating to and raising funds for DWF.
If you have a question that isn’t answered below, please reach out to Jenna Courage Baz, Development Associate, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
How will DWF use the funds raised through my initiative?
Donations made to DWF help us continue the ongoing work to build cultural understanding and create a path toward reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples.
We do this through programs like Legacy Schools, which provides free resources to educators so they can confidently teach about the true history of Canada and the ongoing impact of residential schools. Donations help us develop and print the materials that we send out.
Donations also help us continue to host events and campaigns that build awareness, education, and connections between all peoples in Canada.
Mes donateurs recevront-ils un reçu fiscal ?
Tax receipts are issued in accordance with the rules and regulations of the CRA. DWF will issue official charitable tax receipts for all donations of $10 or more made by individuals directly to DWF, online, or by cheque. If donations are collected by a third party, official charitable tax receipts will only be issued to individuals that make donations of $10 or more without receiving any product or tangible item in return. The full name and address of each donor, the date the donation was made, and the full amount they contributed must be provided immediately upon submitting a group donation.
How does DWF use personal information that may be collected through a fundraiser?
Personal information is used to issue tax receipts and provide occasional updates on DWF programs, initiatives, and events. We respect your privacy and do not distribute your information to third parties.
How can I share stories and photos from my fundraiser with DWF?
We encourage all of our supporters to share their unique stories with DWF. Once your fundraiser is complete, please fill in our online ReconciliACTION form! We may feature your reconciliACTION in a newsletter, blog post, or other DWF materials.
Can I donate the proceeds of a product I sell?
Yes! Donations from sales of a product or service are accepted by DWF.
Je souhaite organiser un événement tiers officiel pour DWF. Que dois-je faire ?
Please tell us more about your idea through our online submission form! A DWF team member will contact you within the week to share information on our third-party fundraising policy and answer any questions you may have about the process.
How do I submit the proceeds from my fundraiser?
The quickest and easiest way to submit the funds is directly through our donation page, but you can also send a cheque by mail. Please ensure the cheque is payable to Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund and mailed to PO Box 749, Ohsweken, ON, N0A 1M0. We ask that all proceeds from your fundraiser are submitted to DWF within 45 days, unless otherwise communicated.
