Special Occasion Giving

Hosting an event? Celebrating a special occasion? Whether it’s a birthday, anniversary, bar/bat mitzvah, graduation, or wedding, integrating a fundraiser into your special day is a meaningful way to give back. It’s easy to do!

Instead of gifts, ask attendees to give a donation to DWF. Or, for an event such as a wedding, advise your guests that you have made a donation in lieu of favours.

Host a Fundraiser

Hosting a fundraiser is easy to do with Canada Helps! With a few simple steps, you can set your goal and share your fundraiser with friends and family.

Gift of Securities

A gift of stocks, bonds, mutual funds, or other securities is a convenient way to support the continued journey towards reconciliation.

The benefits of giving a gift of securities include:

  • You do not have to pay a capital gains tax
  • You will receive a tax receipt for the full fair market value of the donated securities
  • You can use your tax credit in the year of your gift, or carry it forward 5 years.

Learn more about Gifts of Securities here.

To make a gift of securities, please follow these two easy steps:

  1. Complete the DWF Gift of Securities Form and email it to angela@downiewenjack.ca
  2. Instruct your broker to transfer the shares to the DWF account

A tax receipt will be issued after the closing date of the sale of the shares and will be for the value of closing price on the date DWF receives the security. To ensure timely processing, we kindly request that donations be made prior to December 16, 2021.
